About CWGI Print E-mail

Original CWG LogoChristian Writers' Group International, Inc. began as a small e-mail list to help Christian writers. On February 3, 1997, Lisa Wiener founded the group, then called Christian Writers' Group, or CWG.

Lisa considered CWG as God's with herself as a servant, so she always sought Him for how to lead the group and in what direction to take it. God honored her because of it by increasing CWG's effectiveness. Soon the group offered member scholarships to writing conferences through member donations and fundraising efforts. Other CWG members stepped up and offered additional scholarships. Educating writers took a more direct approach when God led the group to direct its own writing conferences, with three completed to date. Additionally, membership grew to 700 and so did International appeal. Soon CWG had a sister list in South Africa.

As time passed, and Lisa kept seeking God, she felt Him wanting to take CWG in a new, bigger direction. At His prompting and confirmation through several close friends and CWG members, CWG began the process of incorporation to become a nonprofit organization. This required instituting a Board of Directors and appointing executive officers. It also prompted a name change.

In late 2006, CWG reached nonprofit status and became Christian Writers' Group International, Inc.. CWG is now referred to as CWGI.

Big changes were underway for CWGI. So were they for Lisa. As God was calling the writing group to newer, bigger things, He was also calling Lisa to focus her efforts elsewhere. She obeyed His lead and resigned from CWGI in early 2007.

Assistant Executive Director Brandy Brow stepped in as Executive Director. She holds the same conviction Lisa did for CWGI--that it belongs to God--and so continues in Lisa's footsteps, praying the way for CWGI's operations.

Many changes await CWGI members that will better help them learn to write, understand the publishing industry, connect with markets, and put everything they are learning into practice. It is an exciting time for CWGI and leadership looks forward to watching God's plans unfold.

Membership is available to any born-again Christian who desires to write. It has always been free and will continue to be free. At present, becoming a CWGI member means joining CWGI's e-mail discussion list. Visit Join CWGI's E-mail List for more information.
